First session gear guide
FIRST SESSION GEAR CHECKLIST FOR THE RING
Loaner gloves do not guarantee that every first visit will feel comfortable. Wrap fit, glove size, mouthguard coverage, footwork pace, recovery space and coach cues depend on what you bring, when you arrive and which block you join. This checklist is written for 1401 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004 and reviewed after every eight-week cycle. Prime Boxing Gym is where strength, skill, and discipline come together — train with experienced coaches in a motivating, high-energy environment and step into the ring ready from night one.
Map the required gear
List hand wraps long enough for wrist support, training gloves sized for bag and pad work, a mouthguard if you expect contact rounds, athletic shoes with flat soles, and a water bottle. Then compare that list with the loaner rack run by Elena Voss. Visitors who arrive twenty minutes early receive wrap and glove checks from Priya Shah before the twelve-minute warm-up starts. Do not assume a late arrival can borrow gloves and still join the first shadow-boxing round. Dante Ruiz also asks beginners to bring a spare T-shirt so sweat does not compromise wrap tension through the pad-work block. Members rate the current loaner advice 4.9 after thirty-six first-session notes logged in September.
Separate glove weight from session type
Two glove weights can support very different work. A lighter pair is common for speed bag and double-end drills. A heavier pair is the default for bag rounds and for anyone waiting on a sparring review. Confirm the session type with Marcus Hale before you buy your own set. Members rate the current sizing guidance 4.8 after the September fundamentals block. Fitness boxing nights still require hand wraps even when the block is conditioning-focused, and Riley Quinn will send you back to the bench if wraps are missing or too loose for safe impact work.
Check training headroom
The session may reserve some energy for the strength finish. Confirm how many classes you already do in a week, whether a shoulder niggle needs Jonah Blake on the recovery floor, and whether a ninety-minute block is too long for night one. A visitor can complete the warm-up and still fade in the last pad round, which only becomes obvious during a demanding combination interval. Keep the first week to one session if you are returning from a break, then add a second class after coach approval. Current members rate first-week pacing clarity 4.7 after the September 4 update.
Arrival checklist
- Arrive twenty minutes before the listed start time.
- Tell the desk if this is your first boxing session.
- Confirm beginner, fitness or competitive placement.
- Check wrap length, glove size and mouthguard fit at the rack.
- Ask whether the planned night includes pad work or bag rounds only.
Test within the trial window
Complete the full first session during the trial period. Check how the warm-up feels, whether the gloves stay comfortable, how clearly the coach calls combinations, and whether you can return for a second visit the same week. Email [email protected] or call +12026289100 if you want placement before you travel to Pennsylvania Avenue. The gym desk will confirm ring assignment, floor side and the exact meeting point so you are not hunting for your coach after the bell. Step into the ring and become the strongest version of yourself — starting with gear that actually fits.
